London Concertante by Candlelight
Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The Lark Ascending, Ralph Vaughan Williams
The Four Seasons, Antonio Vivaldi
London Concertante’s candlelit concert brings the natural world to life with two well-loved classics, both highlighting virtuosic violin performances. Vivaldi’s vivid musical depictions of the seasons include a fresh spring day with a barking dog, violent summer storms, celebrations of harvest and the feeling of walking on thin ice. Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending was written in the last days before the outbreak of the First World War and takes the listener soaring to dizzy heights on a bird’s wings above a tranquil summer landscape. Mozart’s overture to The Marriage of Figaro sets the tone for the opera’s lively and chaotic ‘day of madness’.
