HMS Pinafore
HMS Pinafore, or ‘The lass that loved a sailor’ follows the tale of the Captain’s daughter Josephine who is torn between her love for a Ralph, a lowly sailor and her duty to marry the First Lord of the Admiralty Sir Joseph Porter. Set on a moored ship in Portsmouth, this comic operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan uses the age-old tale of forbidden love to lampoon the notion of social class.
