Durham University’s Palatinate Orchestra’s chamber orchestra, conducted by Michael Kohn, perform Ralph Vaughan Williams’s magnificent fifth symphony. Composed during World War II, this radiant work expresses pain and heartbreak whilst maintaining an over-arching hopefulness throughout. The orchestra also perform Doreen Carwithen’s delightful Suffolk Suite, and Alexander Glazunov’s last ever work, his single-movement saxophone concerto.
