Mendelssohn Violin Concerto
Felix Mendelssohn: Violin concerto (soloist Joshua Evett)
Sergei Prokofiev: Symphony No.1 ‘Classical’
Richard Wagner: Siegfried Idyll
Claude Debussy: B minor symphony, orchestrated by Tony Finno.
Full of dazzling passages, lyrical melodies and witty conversations between the soloist and orchestra, Felix Mendelssohn’s violin concerto balances classical poise and romantic tenderness. Sergei Prokofiev strikes a similar balance of styles in his ‘Classical’ symphony, pairing the elegance of Mozart or Haydn with Prokofiev’s characteristic mischief, surprises and fireworks.
DUOS Chamber Orchestra’s concert also includes Richard Wagner’s poetic and beautiful love-letter, Siegfried Idyll, composed as a birthday gift to his wife, and Tony Finno’s orchestration of the only surviving movement of Debussy’s B minor Symphony – an early premonition of the genius to come.
